I drink your CARNATION® INSTANT BREAKFAST ESSENTIALS™ and mix it with skim milk. I just noticed that there are 12 grams of sugar in the milk. Is this bad for someone with diabetes?
ANSWER: Actually, any of our CARNATION® INSTANT BREAKFAST ESSENTIALS™ drinks are well suited for a person with diabetes. Milk has a naturally occurring sugar called lactose, which should be considered in the total amount of carbohydrates. It also has 8 grams of protein per serving, which makes it a fairly balanced food and less likely to cause a spike in your blood sugar. Back to top
I have diabetes and have to watch my cholesterol as well as my sugar, but I see that your CARNATION® INSTANT BREAKFAST ESSENTIALS™ No Sugar Added Classic French Vanilla has about 5 milligrams of cholesterol, and that's not even including the milk. How can I incorporate this into my diet?
ANSWER: It is wise to limit the amount of fats in your diet. Limiting foods that are high in fats will help you lose weight and keep your blood fats, such as your cholesterol, under control. The amount of dietary cholesterol in our CARNATION® INSTANT BREAKFAST ESSENTIALS™ No Sugar Added Classic French Vanilla is less than 5 milligrams compared to the Daily Value (the recommended limit for most people) of 300 milligrams per day. That's only 2% of the Daily Value (DV). Therefore, 5 mg is considered negligible. Also, the product has 0 grams of total fat per serving.
Did you know that too much fat in a person's diet will tend to increase their blood cholesterol levels? When reading food labels you want to pay close attention to total fat, saturated fat, trans fats and cholesterol, which can increase a person's risk of heart disease if the total diet is high in any of these. Your total intake of fat should not exceed 30% of your daily calories, and reducing saturated fat to less than 10 percent of calories can help lower your blood cholesterol level. Some individuals should consume even less than that in order to bring down their cholesterol. Back to top
