How is BOOST GLUCOSE CONTROL® different than Glucerna® Shake?

ANSWER: BOOST GLUCOSE CONTROL® is lower in carbohydrate, including sugars, and higher in protein, giving it a nutrient profile that is unique and different from Glucerna® Shake.

Can I / Should I take this product if my blood sugar is already high? What will happen?

ANSWER: You should always follow the guidelines for times of hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) as outlined by your health care professionals. Generally, the treatment for hyperglycemia involves adjusting oral medications or insulin vs. diet. This means that you should not change from your dietary plan as you treat the high blood sugar. If your blood sugar is routinely high, you should contact your health care professional for assistance with adjusting your medications and meal plan. Only your health care professionals who help you manage your diabetes can determine what is best for you.

Can I / Should I take this product if my blood sugar is low? What will happen?

Can I get too much protein?

ANSWER: Yes, an individual can consume too much protein. One concern with an increased intake of protein is that as protein intake increases, fat intake may also increase. In the US, the usual dietary protein intake is between 15-20% of total calories. Intake of dietary protein in the usual range does not appear to be associated with the development of kidney disease. Why as a diabetic do I need fiber in my diet?

ANSWER: For many individuals with diabetes, fiber in the diet can help to delay digestion, which helps to minimize the spike in post meal blood glucose levels. What is Glycemic Index?

ANSWER: Glycemic Index (GI) is a numerical system for measuring the rise in circulating blood glucose levels after eating a known amount of carbohydrate (CHO) compared to a standard (glucose). The higher the number, the greater the blood sugar rise the food is expected to cause.

The GI classification of foods, according to the World Health Organization, is as follows:

GI less than 55 Low
GI 56-69 Moderate
GI 70 or over High

What is Glycemic Load?

ANSWER: Glycemic Load (GL) is a measure of the impact of carbohydrate consumption from a single serving of a food based on its GI. The higher the number, the greater the blood sugar rise the food is expected to cause. The GL classification of foods is as follows:

What is tapioca dextrin?

ANSWER: Tapioca dextrin is one of the carbohydrate sources in BOOST GLUCOSE CONTROL®. Tapioca dextrin is produced by the breakdown of tapioca starch. Tapioca starch is obtained from the root of the cassava plant. What is Sucralose?

ANSWER: Sucralose, also known as Splenda®, is a low-calorie sweetener that is made from sugar. How is Arginine beneficial for individuals with diabetes?

What is the difference between Soluble and Insoluble Fiber?
